Lawrence Umosen, Marks Golden Jubilee with Reflection, Inspiration

In a heartwarming celebration of resilience and accomplishment, Dr. Lawrence Essen Umosen, a respected Nigerian and administrator at the Consulate General of India in Lagos, is commemorating his 50th birthday with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude.

Dr. Umosen, who recently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from Joseph Ayo Babalola University in Osun State, shared insights into his life journey, recent achievements, and future aspirations in an exclusive conversation. With passions rooted in training, leadership development, entrepreneurship, and micro-economic empowerment, he has consistently contributed to the growth and upliftment of those around him.

“This birthday is a celebration of the golden jubilee of my sojourn on earth,” he stated. “It’s an opportunity to reflect on how the journey has unfolded and how things have turned out for me personally.”

Among the milestones that stand out for Dr. Umosen is the completion of his PhD, achieved during the 15th Academic Convocation of his alma mater in December 2024. Also, a fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria (FIPMA)
He also expressed gratitude for good health and the strength to overcome various life challenges over the past five decades.

Recounting his difficult early years, Dr. Umosen shared how he lost his father at the age of 10 while in Primary 4. He was forced to support his education by farming and selling garri in his village to raise N24 for school fees. After moving to Lagos in 1997, four years after completing his SSCE, he joined his elder brother in a one-room apartment. Despite being denied financial support for further education, he resolved to work hard and pursue his dreams. “That rejection gave me the push I needed,” he recalled. “I promised myself I would succeed, and today the rest is history.”

Dr. Umosen believes in the importance of celebrating life’s little wins. “Self-celebration is the needed fuel and motivation that humans require to continue pursuing the goals of life,” he said. “I want young people to see me as proof that regardless of the challenges, if they remain resolute, they can achieve their dreams too.”

He plans to host a get-together in honor of his golden jubilee, bringing together friends and well-wishers to celebrate his journey, good health, career growth, and academic success.

Dr. Umosen expressed deep gratitude to God and to those who have supported or challenged him along the way. “Without the people and circumstances God placed in my life, I wouldn’t have had enough reason to celebrate today,” he said.

Looking ahead, he hopes to live a more impactful life, bringing peace, growth, and joy to those within his circle of influence. “There’s greater satisfaction in seeing others grow and feel uplifted because of your presence in their lives.”

Offering advice to others on their own journey, Dr. Umosen said, “Set realistic goals and stay focused. That is the key to achieving personal growth and celebrating your own story.”
