Winny Ezeme The New Force Of Gospel Music In Nigeria

From her small town roots to a rising star, the 28 year old’s journey reflects faith, community, and a divine calling to share God’s glory through song.

Winny Ezeme, born April 21, 1997, in Udenu, Enugu State, is a gospel artist whose music carries the heart of her hometown to the world.

Raised in Udenu, Winny grew up surrounded by Igbo culture and worship. Her education began at L.E.A Primary School, Abuja, continued at Government Secondary School, Garki, and concluded after her relocation to Oxford Secondary School, Obollo Afor in the eastern part of Nigeria. She later earned a degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. “Education gave me discipline, but community gave me purpose,” she shares.

Her faith deepened through 10 years in the choir at Platform of Grace Church. “The choir was my foundation,” she says. “It taught me music is ministry.”

In 2013, Winny embraced music as her divine “assignment.” A friend’s WhatsApp message led her to a gospel music competition; Gospel Icons Africa, where she won ₦10 million, a car, and a recording contract. “That win changed everything,” she says. “It showed me God can use me to reach the world.”

Winny’s debut single under Gospel Icon, ‘You Reign,’ blends her journey with her roots. “It’s personal, carrying my people and God’s message,” she explains. Inspired by gospel icons like Sinach and Mercy Chinwo, she dreams of uniting communities through worship.

From Udenu to the world, Winny Ezeme’s voice bridges her past and future, proving greatness begins where faith and roots meet.
