Gombe Gov Seeks Stakeholders Support to Tackle Gombe Flood 

.Pledges to work towards restoring peace in North East

Governor  Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state, has canvassed for urgent collaboration among stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of previous flooding incidents in the state. 

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has identified specific local government areas in Gombe State as being at a higher risk of flooding as the 2023 rainy season intensifies.

Yahaya made the call Tuesday while speaking with newsmen after a closed-door meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House, Abuja

Stressing the insufficiency of the response to the flooding crisis thus far, the governor emphasized the urgency of taking swift action and implementing measures to keep up with current trends. 

He said: “The problem of flooding is virtually a national issue now, you know, global warming and climate change is affecting all the globe, and for that, we are strategizing. We would not like a repeat of what happened last year to do the same this year. 

“But in whatever we do, we have to be both proactive and reactive. We have not acted in the way that we solved all the problems of last year, and this year’s has started. 

“So we need to double up, we’ll do some little backtracking and move in double loss to catch up with the current trends and do the needful. 

“So all hands must be on deck; NiMET, the states, NEMA and whoever has interest in environment and environmental control has to come together and work with the government in order to solve the problem”.

The governor also assured Nigerians that his government and northern counterparts are focused on restoring peace and minimising banditry and kidnapping in their region.

“As Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, I will ensure that we get to the root of all those problems through the support of the various state governments.

“The federal government itself will come up with the solutions since that will trigger positive action and reaction, not the negatives, and very soon, the narrative will change by the grace of God. 

“We will have a peaceful north that is contributing to the development and prosperity of Nigeria”, he said.
