The former Chairman, Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Alabi, has re-emphasised the importance of traditional rulers’ role in the constitution.

The monarch pointed out that if the traditional rulers are given constitutional role, it would help in managing security crisis, governance and management of the country at large.

Oba Alabi therefore, called on President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the national assembly to act on the discussion previously held with the national assembly members.

Oba Alabi  made the remarks in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State while receiving  Major General Adeyemi Adetayo (rtd) back home after over 38 years  service to the nation.

The traditional ruler bestowed on General Adetayo and his wife, Deaconess Esther Adetayo, the chieftaincy title of Jagun Gbayi and Yeye Jagun Gbayi, of Ilawe kingdom respectively.

Oba Alabi said: “We hope that in no distance time, something will be done to make traditional rulers in the country to be involved in governance and administration of the country.”

Specifically, the monarch reminded President  Tinubu and the current leadership of the National Assembly of the need to act on the previous  discussion  when the representatives of the Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria visited the National Assembly to advocate a constitutional role for the traditional institution in the country.

“We hope that in no distance time, something will be done to make traditional rulers in the country to be involved in governance and administration of the country.

“The traditional rulers no doubt are the closest to the people at the grassroots. Hardly will anything go on or happen in our communities without our knowledge as traditional rulers.”

“When you have an aggregate of the traditional rulers coming to the table, and discussing the national security issues, you will be rest assured that the country will be better for it. It is a well deserved requirement for traditional rulers to be well engaged in the act of governance.”

General Adetayo thanked the monarch for the chieftaincy title he conferred on him and his wife, adding the honour done to him has further spurred him to continue do more.

“It is now time for me to be back to Ilawe Ekiti. I have been coming and going back before but, now, there is nowhere for me to go again,” he assured.

Adetayo urged the federal and states governments to face all sectors of the economy to curb unemployment which is fueling insecurity.

According to him, “if there is employment, half or more the  problems we have in our country would be solved.”

He also suggested that Nigeria can also have more than one army like other nations of the world, which may reduce some of our national

 problems.

General Adetayo last posting was at Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, Abuja before retirement recently.
