Zulum Unveiled Vocational Institute with 14 Workshops

The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has unveiled another vocational training institute at Shani town, in the southern part of the state.

The commissioning of the institute last weekend was attended by Emir of Shani, Alhaji Mohammed Nasir Mailafiya.

The Institute has 14 workshops designed to train youths on tailoring and fashion design, hairdressing and cosmetology, welding, plumbing and pipe-fitting, carpentry and joinery, building technology, electrical works, solar panel and installation, automobile and mechatronics, agricultural technology, knitting and crocheting, aluminum fabrication and ICT.

The institute would train and graduate two sets 2,000 trainees per annum with a plan to increase the capacity to 4,000 trainees every year.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Zulum noted that his administration would domesticate basic literacy and numeracy, digital literacy and vocational skills among people in rural areas.

Shani’s multi-billion Naira vocational institute was one of two vocational institutes to be unveiled by Governor Zulum in southern Borno in the last one week.

The governor had, on Thursday, unveiled a similar vocational training institute with 15 workshops in Biu town.

According to a statement that was issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Spokesman, Mr. Isa Gusau, the Zulum’s administration has so far built five vocational training institutes and rehabilitated 19 small technical skills centres across the state, including those owned by community-based organisations (CBOs).

He said that the objective is to train thousands of youths to be self-reliant in order to address mass unemployment.

He noted that Zulum was in Shani and Biu in company of Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Bukar Tijjani, Head of Service, Mr. Mallam Fannami, members of the Borno State Executive Council and some top government officials.
