Niger Inaugurates Police Station, Promises More Equipment

Niger State Governor Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago has inaugurated the new Chanchaga Divisional Police Headquarters edifice with a promise to properly equip the force to enable it combat crime and criminality in the state.
The new edifice was constructed and donated by the state government after the government through its Executive Order 1, ordered the demolition of the previous structure for sitting on water distribution pipeline.
Governor Bago said at the ceremony that his administration will very soon provide the force with amoured personnel carriers, gun trucks and other operational vehicles to aid it in its fight against banditry.
He said his administration was poised to also provide security to its citizens and will therefore, not allow anything to stop it from achieving the objective.
The governor acknowledged the efforts of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police and other security operatives in the state who have been committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property of the citizenry but charge them to continue to strive to achieve a crime free society.
The governor, however, called on the security operatives to be more proactive in the performance of their duties and also tasked citizens to cooperate with the agencies by providing them useful security intelligence.
Bago announced that his government has almost completed plans to give support to families of security agents who paid the supreme price the line of duty.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr Ogundele Ayodeji, in an address observed that the new structure would encourage his men to serve the people better but appealed for more support because “security is crucial and expensive”
“Investing in the right equipment will secure the state and bring about the needed development” Ogundeji said.
