BIC Empowers Teachers to Enhance Teaching, Learning in Classrooms

Over 200 teachers from various public and private schools across the country recently converged on the Pearl Hall Classique Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, for the BIC Canvas of Change Masterclass, designed to enhance their teaching tactics, enable them to share knowledge, strategies and methodologies that will help bring out the best in their students.
The programme, themed, ‘Writing the Future Together’, saw facilitators discussing topics on ‘Developing Future Ready Teenagers’, ‘Bloom Taxonomy’, and ‘Feed Forward’, among others.
Speaking with journalists, the Business Development Manager, BIC, Mr. Adeyemi Ojo, explained that the essence of the programme was to impact teachers and give them the basic tools to deliver their lectures professionally in their classrooms, as well as contribute to the development of education in the country.
“It is our plan to impact as many students with tools that will make their learning environment conducive. So we are trying to impact the teachers with the methodologies that they will use in delivering the objectives,” said Ojo.
He said the strategies by the facilitators are ways to enhance students’ interest in learning, adding that the masterclass project, aside from being launched in Nigeria, will also be held in other West African countries.
The Impact Advisor for TRACE Global, Mr. Femi Taiwo, emphasised e-learning, saying that it will expose the teachers to resources and opportunities that will be useful in the classroom, adding that they have to be prepared to maximise such platforms.
“Teachers have to rethink curricular and pedagogy, as well as the experience of teaching and learning, as these are what prepare young people for the world of work,” added Ojo.
The Chief Executive Officer at School Inka, Oluwaseun Kayode, stressed the need for teachers to adapt teaching methods that will move students away from cramming what they are being taught to creating solutions to societal challenges, adding that the programme helps change teacher’s perception of their profession. He expressed optimism that the teachers would take their lessons to their classrooms to impact teaching and learning.
Kayode expressed delight about the state government’s position in implementing e-learning strategies in its public schools, noting they cannot do it alone without the support of the private sector.
