The Principal Partner, Integrated Engineering Associates and former Director General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, has challenged the class of 2023 Engineering Graduates of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to adopt the principles of engineering science as well as creative thinking in addressing critical national challenges.

Abubakar who gave the advice while delivering the induction speech at the graduating ceremony of the engineering students, reminded them of the need to always adopt science and critical thinking while trying to solve critical national challenges, especially now that they were entering into the labour market.

According to him, the application of creative thinking, problem-solving, and ingenuity to develop novel solutions to complex problems are by default their training as engineers.

Speaking on the theme: ‘The World Ahead: Roles of Science, Technology and Innovation’, Abubakar reminded the graduating students of the possibilities that the world offers and the vital roles that science, technology, and innovation play in shaping our future.

He insisted that as engineers, they must acknowledge the pivotal role of science in shaping the understanding of the world, adding that science is the bedrock upon which all engineering knowledge is built.

“Science alone is not enough. Technology, the practical application of scientific principles, is what empowers us to shape the world. As we all witness today, technology has transformed the way we live, work, and interact with our environment. It has brought us closer to the stars, connected us across continents, and improved the quality of our lives. Engineers are the architects of the past, present, and future technological advancements, shaping our world. You are now uniquely positioned and empowered to bring about positive changes, ”Abubakar said.
