Charting Nigeria’s Course through Commitment and Innovation
Nnenna Agbai writes about efforts being made by the Federal Government through the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to reorganise National Directorate of Employment towards service delivery for teeming unemployed youths.
In a dynamic and forward-thinking display of commitment, the 55th International Conference & Exhibition and Emerald (55th) Anniversary of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) echoed with resonating themes of progress, empowerment, and transformation.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, in a compelling address this week, encapsulated the fervour of an administration dedicated to sculpting Nigeria into a self-reliant, economic powerhouse.
Underscoring the President’s resolute dedication, the Minister of State unveiled a strategic vision that emphasized the pivotal role of innovation, economic dynamism, and poverty eradication in Nigeria’s development trajectory.
President Tinubu’s resounding commitment to metamorphosing Nigeria into a hub of creators and builders served as the cornerstone of his administration’s vision. Emphasizing this, he laid out plans for unique industrial hubs, finely tailored to harness the strengths inherent in each region of the nation. This blueprint promises an unprecedented surge in industrial activity, propelling Nigeria towards economic revitalization.
Crucially interwoven with this industrialization vision is the resolve to banish the specter of unemployment and poverty. The administration’s strategy banks on fostering an environment teeming with job opportunities, bolstering food security, and spearheading poverty eradication initiatives that will see 50 million Nigerians move up above the poverty line and begin to aspire in to the middle class bracket.
This interconnected approach underscores the belief that sustainable development hinges on empowering individuals and communities across Nigeria.
Simultaneously, at the heart of this transformative vision of Mr. President lies the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), an instrumental agency under the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, and under the purview of Minister of State.
Recognized as a linchpin in the fight against poverty, the NDE received an impassioned call to action from the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon Onyejeocha.
At a meeting themed ‘Developing a Roadmap for the NDE within the framework of the Renewed Hope Agenda,’ she rallied its leadership to assume an even more substantial role in uplifting Nigerians from economic hardship.
Emphasizing the agency’s critical role in job creation, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship development, Onyejeocha reasserted the administration’s employment policy. This policy not only prioritises skill empowerment and entrepreneurship for blue-collar jobs but also envisions the NDE as a catalyst in driving the President’s vision and agenda of prosperity for all.
Quite an inspiring agenda with a spotlight on youth, women, and the vulnerable groups, the NDE stands poised to equip them with essential skills vital for national rejuvenation.
The clarion call by the Minister to fortify the NDE’s strategic initiatives echoes the urgency of the hour, especially when Nigeria grapples with formidable unemployment challenges. Minister Onyejeocha’s directive to intensify awareness about skill acquisition programmes aligns seamlessly with the administration’s endeavour to confront unemployment head-on.
As Nigeria navigates its developmental journey, these two events stand as lighthouses illuminating the path towards an empowered, industrious, and self-reliant nation. The amalgamation of visionary leadership, dedicated agencies, and strategic frameworks lays the groundwork for a Nigeria that not only thrives amid domestic and global uncertainties, but also paves the way for its citizens to prosper and flourish.
The commitment echoed at the 55th International Conference and Exhibition and the impassioned plea at the NDE meeting underscore a collective resolve to transform Nigeria’s democratic landscape, where citizens can touch and feel the true meaning of democratic dividends. The narrative of hope, innovation, and empowerment scripted at these events will continue to embolden the nation on its quest for sustainable growth and prosperity.
