Three Kidnapped Victims Regain Freedom in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has disclosed that three victims kidnapped in the State on Tuesday evening regained their freedom .

The gunmen had on the said day attacked travellers around the Port Harcourt International Airport roundabout on the Obiri-Ikwerre link road and abducted some persons.

Sources from the scene of the incident had disclosed that about eight persons were abducted by the gunmen in the attack.

Speaking on the incident yesterday, the State Public Relations Officers, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, noted that three people were kidnapped in the incident, saying however, that they have regained their freedom.

It was gathered that the criminals had established contact with families of the victims and that the bandits were demanding an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.

The police spokesperson explained that the police tactical teams were mobilised to ensure safe and unconditional release of the victims based on order of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olatunji Disu.

According to Iringe-Koko, based on the directive by the CP, the three victims abducted on the Obiri-Ikwerre Road have been released.

According to her, all the police heads in the Aluu area, where the incident happened, moved into action and the kidnappers freed the victims because of pressure from the police.

Iringe-Koko said; “The Commissioner of Police Rivers State Command, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu had a meeting with Area Commanders, DPOs within the area of jurisdiction with tactical team Commanders and instructed them of adequate security measures in place to ensure those abducted on 2/01/2024 along Aluu/Igwuruta road regain their freedom. “Based on the pressure and massive deployment of Police present, the victims were released and have reunited with their family members today,
