Music Business Academy for Africa Wraps Up Successful 2023/2024 Programme
The Music Business Academy for Africa (MBA) proudly announces the successful conclusion of its 2023/2024 Programme. With over 300+ graduates hailing from various African countries and the globe, this year’s cohort have left an indelible mark on the continent’s music industry.
The program provided a comprehensive learning experience, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to excel in the music business. A dedicated website launched for the 2023 cohort served as a hub for information, showcasing the graduating class directory, project details, and a blog to document their journey.
Collaboration was a key theme throughout the program. Students actively participated in a five-day songwriting camp, supported by the Creative Industries Initiative For Africa (CIIFA). Partnering with Sony Music Publishing and The Orchard, this creative effort yielded over 62 songs and culminated in the production of an entire album titled “Pepple Street.” which showcases Africa’s diverse musical heritage.
Fans can listen to “Pepple Street” online, and a music video for the song “Different Feeling” is also available.
The MBA for Africa Talent Project provided students with practical experience through a six-week artist development camp, again supported by CIIFA. Aspiring artists from Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya honed their craft, receiving guidance on stage presence, vocal technique, and other skills crucial for success in the spotlight.
Graduates proudly unveiled their debut project, the “Pepple Street” album, at an exclusive listening party. Industry insiders, media representatives, and music enthusiasts gathered to discover this pool of fresh talent.
The graduation ceremony itself was a momentous occasion, celebrating dreams achieved, connections forged, and the official awarding of certificates. Seasoned speakers offered valuable advice to prepare graduates for navigating the complexities of the music business and life in general.
The program culminated in a grand finale concert. The talented artists from the MBA Talent Project took centre stage, delivering electrifying performances from the “Pepple Street” album, leaving the audience wanting more. Concert highlights can be viewed online.
The Music Business Academy for Africa remains dedicated to empowering the continent’s next music executives and building a workforce that is well equipped. We would like to use this opportunity to thank the graduates for their great work and learning, the faculty, partners and sponsors such as YouTube, The Orchard, Sony
Music Publishing and VFD Microfinance Bank Limited who continue to make our mission possible.
